I have an ongoing love affair with my materials. I’m constantly amazed how this stuff, that comes out of tubes, transforms itself into a visceral encounter. My approach to the canvas is an unplanned combination of deliberate effort and chance. Trusting the spontaneous mark making, the bold gestures and quiet touches, an environment emerges from the buildup of deep layers, where the tactile saturated colors & richly textured surfaces become laden with meaning and emotion—the hint of something remembered, poignant or joyful, that is very real. Partly hidden, partly exposed these fragments of memories slow the viewer down to reveal something that is suddenly familiar.
