Artist Statement
CVI paint images that require the observer to participate. In my work, you can see the structure, the brush stroke, and my thoughts. I obey my own feelings. I’m not burdened with the rules and expectations of others and my sources of inspiration may start with something visual, but they ultimately come from inside my imagination. When I start a painting, the excitement is very high. I don’t know what the end result will be. My compositions most often are from an elevated view above the subject – a safe place to view. In some pieces I bend perspective to fit my style and use color to define the space. If the viewer is quick to understand the image, they’re even faster to lose attention and leave it. It is my hope you will sit and stay for a while.
