The works I create are inspired by a wide array of sources, both natural and man-made, that I find visually stimulating and intriguing. Drawing from this wealth of visual stimuli, I allow my imagination free reign as I sculpt the objects with an understainding that the surfaces will be painted. I use layers of oil paints to create a kind of skin that characterizes the form.
I am interested in both the surface of things and what the surface implies or suggests as an interior - an interior that contains some hidden force or inner life that projects an identity beyond the surface. With the works I create, I attempt to offset the ease with which one usually grasps things. The process of identifying and understanding becomes challenged. By playing on the edge of the known and unknown, I attempt to balance the familiar with the mysterious.
